About Us

The GOAL of the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA is to help boys develop into honorable men.

The MISSION of the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

The GOALS of TROOP 800 are to provide a safe and fun program of service to others, leadership development, and outdoor adventure to its youth members, based on the values contained in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Using the Patrol Method of organization, the Troop is "boy run", with Adult Scouters serving as coaches, mentors and advisors.

CHARTERING ORGANIZATION

Troop 800 is proudly chartered by the Greenbrier Presbyterian Church, 1100 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, Virginia

MEETINGS

The Troop has regular Troop meetings every Wednesday evening, 7:30-8:30 p.m. (year-round) at Greenbrier Presbyterian Church. Other meeting times or dates may be set, with adequate advance information provided to each Troop member. Each Scout is expected to attend a majority of Troop meetings during the year.

Additional skills and advancement training may be conducted before troop meetings when scheduled in advance with an Assistant Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Counselor or Instructor. The Patrol Leader's Council meets the third Thursday of each month for leadership training and to plan activities for upcoming months. As part of the troop meeting agenda, time is usually allotted for the Patrol Corners. The Patrol Corner is a patrol meeting during the troop meeting. The group conducts patrol business, duty rosters and menus for camping trips are planned, and training may occur.

CAMPING AND OUT-OF-TROOP ACTIVITIES

Troop 800 goes camping once a month year-round, and incorporates other activities (bicycling, water sports, hiking, backpacking, etc.) into its camping trips.

From the troop’s inception, the Scouts felt strongly about having non-meeting activities once per month. Sample activities include skating, bowling, going to a sporting event, and other activities selected by the Scouts at their annual planning meeting. These activities typically take place on a Wednesday evening, replacing one of the monthly troop meetings.
